Raspberry Pi vs Gumstix

I have received Gumstix Robovero to play around with. On top of from the picture is Raspberry Pi B and from Gumstix Robovero at the bottom.

Monitor your Raspberry Pi with Nagios using SNMP

This is a quick note to monitor your Raspberry Pi  running Raspbian with Nagios.  I assumed you have Nagios running and configured on your side.

*I will improve this note from time to time.

1. Install SNMP on Raspberry Pi

root@sennpi:/home/senn# apt-get install net-snmp*
root@sennpi:/home/senn# mv /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf.org
root@sennpi:/home/senn# nano /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf
root@sennpi:/home/senn# /etc/init.d/snmpd restart

2. Install Nagios SNMP Plugins

root@sennpi:/home/senn# wget http://nagios.manubulon.com/nagios-plugins-snmp-0.6.0.tgz
root@sennpi:/home/senn# ./configure; make; make install
root@sennpi:/home/senn# yum install net-snmp*

3. Test your connection from nagios-server to Raspberry Pi

root@sennpi:/home/senn# ./check_snmp_process -H 192.168.0.123 -C public -m sshd -w 30 -c 50

4. Edit your Nagios configuration file

define your new service at /usr/local/nagios/etc/objects/switches.cfg

use   generic-service ;

Inherit values from a template

host_name  Raspberry_Pi

service_description Running Service SSHD

check_command  check_snmp!-C public -m sshd -w 30 -c 50

}

Raspberry Pi on Raspbian – Raspbian is a free operating system based on Debian optimized for the Raspberry Pi hardware. An operating system is the set of basic programs and utilities that make your Raspberry Pi run. However, Raspbian provides more than a pure OS: it comes with over 35,000 packages, pre-compiled software bundled in a nice format for easy installation on your Raspberry Pi.

From the photo can see Raspbian running on 40″ Toshiba Full HD monitor. Resolution display is at 1920×1090.

Few weeks ago I have purchased a Raspberry Pi B.  Since than I have tried few simple project just to get myself familiar with this awesome mini computer.  I wont write details on the project since you will find a lot of them on internet. However to get the momentum and excitement going on among the raspberry pi-an itself, I posted few photos of it.
